Personal Assistance

To the core of the Independent Living Movement is personal assistance. Working to the agenda of the 'leader', a PA enables the disabled person to make their own decisions and be in control of their own life.

A PA can undertake a variety of tasks under the direction of the leader ranging from personal care, educational and social supports to household assistance. PAs are trained either as part of the Irish Wheelchair Associations' INCARE programme or through the Community Employment Schemes run by FAS, with programmes of study also available within National University Ireland Maynooth and University College Dublin.
