This section discuss the options for accessible housing.
Lifetime Adaptable
The small numbers of accessible dwelling units required to be accessible by
law are intended to be usable by and rented to anyone and not held open exclusively
for disabled people. Read more here.
Universal Design
Items that are usable by most people regardless of their level of ability
or disability can be considered universally usable. Many accessible and adaptable
features are universally usable. Read
more about universal design here.
INHOUSE
INHOUSE is a housing association that was set up to actively promote the provision
and availability of accessible housing for significantly disabled people in
Ireland. Read more about INHOUSE here.
Information and Assessments
Under the auspicious Comhairle, The National Disability Resource Centre as
part of Comhairle provides advice and assistance in the assessment of any
adaptation needs within the house. These assessments are conducted by an Occupational
Therapist. Similarly, assessments can also be conducted by an Occupational
Therapist from your local area Health Board.
