Ireland

• The Irish Tourist Board have devised an inventory of validated accessible hotels and guest houses under which it lists four categories of accessibility, ranging from people who are fully ambulant to people who are wheelchair users. A list of fully accessible hotels and guesthouses under each category is available on their website.
• Other possibilities in Ireland include specially adapted self-catering cottages - check out www.littleireland.ie or www.travel-ireland.com - where you can find, for example, a cottage in the Mourne Mountains or a purpose-built stone cottage in Donegal.
• The Disabled Drivers Association (DDAI) of Ireland, has a holiday bungalow in Wexford, and a house in Ballindine which are available to members and their families at a nominal rent.
• For an artistic holiday the Burren Painting Centre offers accessible accomodation and a ground floor studio.
  

UK

• Holiday Care Service is the UK's central source of travel and holiday information for people with disabilities.
• For a directory of UK hotels and other hospitality related services that are all disability-friendly visit www.everybody.co.uk. This site also provides an accessible airline guide.
• The UK National Youth Agency site has some useful information and links with regard to UK holidays for people with disabilities.
• The Jubilee Sailing Trust, based in Southampton, offers adventure sailing holidays on board the 'Lord Nelson', a purpose-built, square rigged sailing ship. People with disabilites, including wheelchair users, work alongside an equal number of abled-bodied people.

• Independent Living Institute:

The Independent Living Institute has a travel and leisure page containing many links and a good deal of information on the process of travelling and   support agencies in different countries. There is also a link to a site where people with disabilities can compare notes and experiences on getting around and holidaying in various countries. On the Institutes Accessible Vacation Home Exchange page participants can swop homes with people with similar needs in another part of the world for a low-cost holiday alternative. Participants complete an online form describing their home, its accessibility features, points of interest and transport options in the area. Prospective exchange partners contact each other by email and share detailed information before reaching an agreement on a home swop.

• Disabled Holiday Directory:

The Disabled Holiday Directory provides information on accessible places to stay worldwide, including where to stay on safari! Its database also has details and photos of accessible hotels and self-catering accommodation and amenities within Ireland and the UK, if you are not in the mood for lion-spotting!
