On 12th October '05, the Inaugural meeting of the new National Advisory Group took place. Represented at the meeting were three of the four CIL regions, the National Leader Forum, plus representatives at senior levels within Comhairle, DFI, FAS, Department of Social and Family Affairs, PWDI and the Forum of People with Disabilities. This initial meeting was facilitated, quite informal, and looked at the background to NAG as well as NAGs vision, mission and main goals. It also gave each member an opportunity to introduce themselves and talk about their perceived role within the group. Actions to come out of this meeting included a commitment from members to submitting an article about NAG and their role within it to their organisations newsletter, plus a commitment to looking at the launch of the NAG and its strategic and operational plans - early 2006.
This meeting was about examining Strategic Plan values of Inclusion, Equality of Participation, Solidarity and Ongoing Development, and deciding what this means in practical terms to the way the group works. Practicalities such as the number of meetings per year and their duration were agreed, and it was decided that at our next meeting, which is to be the last facilitated one), to elect a Chairperson. A brief update on work already happening within the CIL Network around some of the goals in the NAG Strategic Plan was given, and the group discussed what could realistically be achieved in one year. Tasks from the last meeting were reported on and some guidelines around sub/working groups were agreed, with the first formed to plan the official NAG Launch, planned for February 2006. Next meeting is planned for February 22nd 2006, and will take place in the NDA, prior to the official launch of the NAG
