National Advisory Group Meeting - 7 January 2005
At this meeting the NAG Vision Statement and Mission Statement were finalised as follows:
Vision Statement
"According to the principles of Independent Living - Choices, Rights,
Empowerment and Control - we, in all our diversity, will work in solidarity
to realise justice, equality and respect across the whole spectrum of the
lives of people with disabilities."
Mission Statement
"The mission of the National Advisory Group is to bring about real change in the lives of people with disabilities in order to achieve true Independent Living. We will work to ensure that the principles of Independent Living are intrinsically rooted in the thinking, policies, strategies and actions of all stakeholders."
Core Values
Core values were also discussed - the principles and values by which NAG will operate, as well as the means to measure if they have achieved their goals in the manner in which they set out to do. The Core Values were finalised as follows:
"We are committed to principles of inclusion, equality of participation, solidarity and ongoing development."
Apart from these three items, discussion centered on a number of other key developmental issues including Membership, identification of possible 'impactors' over the lifetime of the Strategic Plan and Communications Strategy.
Communications Strategy
The following main points were agreed with regard to communication of NAG updates and distribution of the draft NAG Strategic Plan:
- Continuation of NAG updates outlined through the CIL Carmichael House Eletter and on their websites NAG section.
- Draft NAG Strategic Plan to be distributed to CIL Chairpersons and Managers (and placed on the CIL Carmichael House website) on Friday February 18th and also to be distributed to many key National Agencies and Organisations.
- CILs to distribute a copy to their local Health Board Area Manager and the Social Inclusion Officer in each authority (and any other interested parties).
- CILs also to discuss this important document with Management and Members etc. in advance of the National CIL Meeting on Saturday February 26th.
- Representatives from CILs to give feedback on draft NAG Strategic Plan at National CIL Meeting.
- CILs to return feedback on document by Wednesday March 2nd.
