Wexford Disability Development (CIL) Ltd
Overview
In early 1996 Kenneth Kilduff established a need for a CIL in Wexford. With the help of CIL Dublin and FAS, CIL came to Wexford in May 1996. The scheme was sponsored and administered by CIL in Dublin. This arrangement proved cumbersome and it was decided that Wexford needed to take more control over their own area. To address this, a local Board of Management was established and has sponsored the present scheme since July 1997.
Current Activities
- Personal Assistance to people with physical disabilities
- Provision of information relating to disabilitiy issues and services
- Certification awards to premises that are wheelchair friendly
Wexford Disability Development CIL is one of the partner organisations
involved with the South Eastern Advocacy Service (SEAS).
SEAS, funded by Comhairle, was formed early 2006 and is managed by the South
Eastern Region Centres for Independent Living (Carlow, Gorey, Wexford, Kilkenny,
Waterford and South Tipperary). The service was set up to provide one-to-one
advocacy for adults across the Sòuth East region, who are either
accessing or waiting to access a service from a South East CIL. For more
