Overview & Current Activities
In addition to running a Personal Assistance CE Scheme and our other regular activities, we are involved with many local and national organistions in many different areas, such as with DFI on the Localisation Committee; the Carlow Access Movement (CAM); the County Network; the MS Society and the VEC.
One of our priorities is also to help develop social events with emphasis on involvement of people with disabiliteis. To this end Carlow CIL is greatly involved in supporting the 'Patchwork Theatre Group'. This group was set up in 2004 to provide a unique opportunity for individuals with differing abilities - from those with learning difficulties, to physical disabilities or no disabilities, to get involved in theatre.
Carlow CIL is the lead organisation involved with the South Eastern Advocacy Service (SEAS). SEAS, funded by Comhairle, was formed early 2006 and is managed by the South Eastern Region Centres for Independent Living (Carlow, Gorey, Wexford, Kilkenny, Waterford and South Tipperary). The service was set up to provide one-to-one advocacy for adults across the Sòuth East region, who are either accessing or waiting to access a service from a South East CIL.
