Video Networking Project
The Center for Independent Living (CIL) Carmichael House is pleased to announce the acceptance of their ‘Video-Assisted Networking Project' by the Dormant Accounts Fund.
This project targets fifty Leaders in the greater Dublin area affording them the opportunity to interact with other individuals with similar experience, from the comfort of their own home. Although CIL Carmichael House is the main partner in this project they are supported by a strong group of associates including the Central Remedial Clinic, Disability Federation of Ireland, and Comhairle, all of whom are as enthusiastic and committed to this project as CIL.
The project, which will be rolled-out throughout 2006, will see the selected Leaders have their computer systems upgraded and both broadband and video-conferencing systems installed. Where the selected individuals do not currently have computer hardware in place it will be installed at no extra cost to the end-user.
The only cost, which will apply to the users of this service, is the monthly broadband charge and any associated installation costs.
Leaders are invited to seize the opportunity to take part in this exciting project. Some of the benefits include:
- Freedom to discuss aspects of Leader service/experience with other individuals with similar experiences
- Freedom to access services via technology, and increased opportunities to participate in community events
- Opportunity to learn about technology and its benefits - particularly video-conferencing
- Effective avenue to participate in governance activities
- Opportunity to participate in training sessions focussing on e-learning, advocacy, organisational support and managing Leader services
CIL Carmichael House are currently finalising the list of participants for this project. Once this is done, a member of the technology support team will contact each one to arrange an appointment to discuss their technological requirements. In terms of time commitment the main group activities will take place online at evenings and weekends, there will also be a requirement to participate in four facilitated workgroup sessions at a time agreed upon by the group.
We have been extremely fortunate to receive funding for this project from Dormant Accounts, who have been very enthusiastic about its potential benefits. We believe that by participating in this project the position of Leaders in the Dublin area will be strengthened. We further hope that the successful project may pave the way for such an initiative on a National scale.
