Uniaccess Project - 2005/2006

The UNIACCESS Project is a biannual European funded Project with the objective of finding technical and political solutions in designing universally accessible systems for Public Transport. The UNIACCESS consortium, and ENIL as a partner of it, believes that transport systems are crucial in the construction of Europe and European Citizenship.

ENIL states that European disabled people are still denied real citizenship because society does not want to recognise that transport  is the main disabling factor, responsible for the discriminating situation of millions of Europeans.

Citizenship means participation in society. In western societies, as Europe is, transport systems, especially the public ones, play a key role in social participation and citizenship. Keeping transport inaccessible for disabled people is a way to maintain oppression and lack of power.

Through the framework of the UNIACCESS project, ENIL wants to contribute to promoting the human and civil rights of the whole of European society, by demanding attention for universal access to transport.
