Module 1
The first module took place from June 22-24 in St. Patricks College, Kiltegan, Wicklow. Key items that were addressed included:
Participants found the module very beneficial, identifying some key pieces of work to help CILs begin a process of CIL self-evaluation, assisting progression of the Independent Living movement nationally.
Module 2
The second module took place from October 5-7 in Kilcuan, Clarenbridge, Galway. The agenda centered on equality and advocacy issues – identifying current trends, defining different forms of advocacy, examining skills involved. Items included:
Module 3
Module 3 also took place in Kilcuan, Galway, from November 16-18.
Mid-Year Evaluation
At this point a mid-year evaluation of the Certificate in Disability Studies took place, involving NUI Maynooth and tutors from three venues, Clarinbridge, Roscommon and Mountmellick.
Module 4
Module 4 took place in Kilcuan, Galway, from Mon-Wed, February 21-23, 2005. The theme for this module was 'Social Analysis and the Environment'. Exploring this theme, the group did an exercise on perceptions and assumptions, also examining the medias presentation of disability. The issue of access and the environment was also discussed. Part of the three day training event was also given over to assignment work, with each individual commiting to a deadline for all work outstanding.
Assignments
March 24 is the final date for assignments to be submitted to CIL Carmichael House, in order to be collated and forwarded to the tutor.
