Following much work done throughout 2004 culminating in a report on the National Leader Forum (NLF), as well as support, training and further feedback throughout 2005, the NLF steering group set about development of an initial NLF model of good practice which could be replicated nationally. The Dublin Leader Forum (DLF) was set up in 2005 for this purpose and specifically to address concerns of many Dublin Leaders including:
It is hoped that the DLF will provide an effective, independent platform from which any Leader may address any issues they have with their Service Provider. Specific aims of the DLF are:
Although in its early stages, the Dublin Leader Forum are producing a regular newsletter with many interesting articles. In issue 1 they explain some basic concepts - from Independent Living, to Leaders & PAs, to Service Providers. They also outline the need for such a forum, and introduce some of its members. (See links to Newsletter issues at end of page.)
At the Dublin Leader Forum Introductory meeting, the following DLF structure was put in place:

Dublin Leaders run the DLF, is independent of any service provider and accountable to its members. The Forum is pperated through a committee with four main focuses as above. An overall spokesperson reports back to the forum and carries any forum concerns back to the committee groups.
Further DLF Meetings
The DLF held a night of craic in the West County Hotel, Chapelizod, Lucan on Friday 24th February from 7.30pm to late.. All Leaders and PA's were invited, with food and entertainment provided plus a number of great prizes to be won on the night. The night proved very sucessful, with Leaders and Personal Assistants having a chance to sit back, relax and have a good time!
