This Certificate Course is part of the University of Maynooth's Adult Education Program. Originally a focused Personal Assistance (PA) practical course, the Certificate has been redesigned and was launched as part of the 2004/2005 academic year.
Course Aims:

Course Duration:
This Certificate is delivered over 100 hours, part-time contact, during
one academic year. Some Saturdays may be required.
Course Content:
The course is divided into four modules:
Module 1: Study Skills and Student Support
Module 2: Models of Disability
Module 3: Equality and Advocacy
Module 4: Social Analysis and Environment
Admission Requirements:
Each participant in the course must be 23 years or over at the time of application. Experience or an interest in the disability sector would be an advantage as would an ability to reflect on one's own practice, attitudes, and beliefs. Course participants will be required to demonstrate a commitment to learning in a group setting and have adequate skills to fully participate in a NUI Certificate Course.
Assessment Procedures:
Assessment is based on a 85% minimum class attendance, participation in these classes, throughout the term of the Certificate, and the accurate completion of all assignments and or projects set by the Course Tutor. Participants who fulfill all assignment requirements will be eligible for the award of National University of Ireland Certificate.
Venues:
The Certificate is delivered off-campus by a number of centres nationally.
To ensure the course is meaningful, relevant, accessible and applicable
participants are encouraged to take an active part in the modelling of the
course for future years. The Certificate will be learner-centred with the
participants own experience and skills informing the curriculum.
Course Fees:
Fees may vary from one Centre
to another depending on the number of participants per Course. For the 2004/05
session, the average fee per student is expected to range between 850 and
950 euro.
