'I was born in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal in 1965. I attended secondary school in Carndonagh Community School were I completed my Inter and Leaving Certificate. After completing a secretarial course, I then went on to Work in a veterinary office. After a short time I started my own business growing mushrooms. In 1994 I moved to Dublin to take up a position with Dublin 7 CIL as a supervisor. This was an action research project where the foundations for 'Vantastic' were put in place.
After three years I moved to Independent Living Community Services, where I took up a position as National Leader Co-ordinator and then after two years I was made manager of this company. The role of this company was to support new CIL's in starting up, and rogressing/developing already established CIL's.
In July of 2001 I took up a position as Director of Muscular Dystrophy Ireland. I believe very strongly in the Philosophy of Independent Living and feel that every disabled person should have the right to choose the way they wish to live.'
