Don has been involved with CIL since 2001. 'I got involved in the CIL movement when I was elected to the Board. Previous to that I was actively involved in the Credit Union Movement. I also worked for Vantastic in the setting-up of the Consumer Focus Group. I attended Business College in the DIT and also undertook a course in Credit Union Studies in University College Cork. For the past twenty years, I have been working for the Civil Service in the Department of Agriculture.'

My involvement in the CIL movement has given me a more independent perspective on life that I probably wouldn't have attained otherwise. I believe that the CIL movement in its future development has to become more focused in terms of their projects ensuring that they are taken to a logical conclusion. In terms of achieving future goals CIL needs to adopt a business ethic to its work and projects. '
In CIL CMH Annual Report 2004, Don was certain that the collective synergies of all CILs would initiate processes that would eventually produce some interesting results. 'All involved in setting up the NAG and varoius local and national forums should be very proud. Lots of extra energy will now be needed to sustain these organisations in the coming days, months and years.'
A new challenge for 2006/07 will undoubtedly be trying to instigate workable solutions from the implications and resource outcomes of the National Strategy, the Disability Act and the Sectoral Plans which are due to pass their final state in the Dail mid 2006.
